A two-way street for MS and its comorbidities
In the first part of the fourth CONy & Teva Neuroscience MS Matters webinar, Prof. Sven Schippling, University Hospital Zürich, Switzerland introduces the link between MS and comorbidities, including autoimmune disease, cardiovascular disease, other neurological conditions and psychiatric conditions. Dr Marja-Liisa Sumelahti, from the University of Tampere, Finland then discusses how underlying pathology of MS could increase susceptibility to certain comorbidities.

In the second section, Dr Sumelahti addresses the impact of comorbidities on diagnosis and disability progression in MS. She highlights the importance of considering these factors when deciding treatment options and assessing quality of life.
Managing patients with MS and their comorbidities
In the final discussion, Dr Sumelahti and Prof. Schippling discuss the challenges of managing MS alongside its comorbidities. They consider the concerns that physicians may have around DMTs worsening comorbidities. They conclude by discussing the importance of optimising the communication and collaboration in multi-professional teams and the important role of nurses in this regard.
