Congress

23.05.2020 - 26.05.2020 6th (Virtual) Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN)

The Congress of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) is a rapidly growing annual meeting that is committed to the future of neurology. EAN pledges their overarching theme for this year’s meeting as “Time for Action: Predict, Prevent, Repair,” focusing on novel therapeutic and interventional approaches across a variety of neurological diseases and disorders.

In years past, Neurologybytes has covered both migraine and MS discussions at EAN. For migraine, in 2019, Dr. Bendik S. Winsvold (Oslo University Hospital, Norway) presented latest insights on genetic biomarkers of migraine, and Prof. Zaza Katsarava (University of Essen-Duisburg, Germany) spoke on migraine preventive treatment options and anti-CGRP biologics at the Teva Satellite Symposium. This year, a course titled “Integrative treatment of idiopathic headache disorders” will cover updates on prophylaxis and treatment of migraine, and another session will discuss injection treatments for chronic migraine.

For MS, the issues surrounding pregnancy for women with MS and the challenges of comorbidities associated with MS were discussed at EAN 2019, among other areas of study. Many of these hot topics will be revisited this year with updated insights, as “Pregnancy in MS” is on the agenda for EAN 2020 as well. Excitingly, one of the plenary sessions at EAN 2020, “Preventing disability progression in MS: From basic science to clinical care,” will be presented by Prof. Catherine Lubetzki (Sorbonne University, Paris, France). Additionally, a focused workshop titled “EAN/ECTRIMS: The emerging importance in ’other cells’ in MS” will provide exciting updates in MS pathology. The course “How to handle safety issues in MS treatment” and the case-based workshop “Practical guidelines to assess MRI lesions that are typical or atypical for MS” are of great interest to the community as well.
